The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested a sub divisional officer (SDO) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.A spokesperson of the VB said the alleged the accused, Hardeep Singh, was posted at the PSPCL office in the Kup Kalan sub-division of Malerkotla district was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Bhogiwal village in Malerkotla district.The complainant alleged the SDO inspected his house and claimed that unauthorised electricity meters had been installed there. The official allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to allow the meters to continue operating.The spokesperson said the complainant recorded the entire conversation in which the bribe was demanded. He approached the VB range in Patiala office.Preliminary inquiry suggested that the VB team laid a trap and arrested the SDO while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the SDO at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Patiala.Further investigation was underway.
