Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Friday mocked the United States after an American fighter jet was reported shot down, with a search-and-rescue operation still under way for the pilots. In a post on X, Ghalibaf criticised what he described as a “no-strategy war”, using sarcasm to target Washington’s handling of the conflict.“After defeating Iran 37 times in a row, this brilliant no-strategy war they started has now been downgraded from ‘regime change’ to ‘Hey! Can anyone find our pilots? Please?’,” he said. His remarks came after reports of a US fighter aircraft being brought down over Iran, though there was no immediate official confirmation from US authorities regarding the incident or any casualties.Iranian media claimed the aircraft was a fifth-generation F-35 jet. According to the Fars news agency, the jet was struck over central Iran by a newly deployed air defence system operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force.“A search operation has begun for the American fighter pilot who was targeted and shot down by the Iranian Armed Forces,” the report said. The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides trading accusations and stepping up military posturing in recent weeks.Analysts warn that any confirmed loss of a US fifth-generation fighter jet could mark a significant escalation in the conflict.
