In one of the biggest reshuffles at the grassroots level, the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday night transferred 21 inspectors, including 10 of the total 16 Station House Officers (SHOs), in a move aimed at infusing new leadership and strengthening field policing.As per an official order issued by SP (PEB), Headquarters & EOW, Manjeet, a copy of which is with The Tribune, the large-scale rejig is intended to give a fresh push to policing at the police station level. The SHOs of IT Park and Sector-34 police stations — listed at serial numbers 7 and 15 — have been shifted to Police Lines.The reshuffle comes in the wake of heightened security concerns, including the grenade blast outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37 on April 1 and three back-to-back shootouts reported earlier within a week. I have tried my best to give field assignments to the best officers from the available lot,” he said.He added that the objective was to enhance accountability and responsiveness at the police station level. “We want sharper ground policing, quicker response and better connect with citizens. These changes are part of a continuous process to strengthen law and order,” the DGP said.Officials indicated that the sweeping changes are aimed at boosting efficiency and ensuring that experienced officers are placed where they are most needed, especially in view of recent incidents that tested the city’s policing apparatus.
