Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said his party would hold a state-level meeting at its head office in Chandigarh on Wednesday to formulate a relief programme for farmers whose standing wheat crop was destroyed by unseasonal rain. After addressing the party’s Punjab Bachao Rally at Budhlada in Mansa district, Sukhbir said, “Farmers have been completely abandoned by the AAP government. We are preparing a programme to provide wheat, green fodder and dry fodder to affected farmers.”“The modalities of this exercise will be finalised at the meeting of district presidents and constituency in-charges in Chandigarh on Wednesday,” he added. He accused the AAP government of failing to provide compensation for last year’s flood-damaged paddy crop.“Now, unseasonal rain and hailstorms have damaged wheat crop over 1.25 lakh acres, yet the government has not given immediate compensation, despite its promises. However, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal is misleading people in Gujarat, claiming that Rs 50,000 per acre was paid to farmers within a month of last year’s floods,” Badal said.Warring tours villagesPunjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday visited some rain and hailstorm affected villages in Bathinda district.
