Following a sharp surge in student enrolment in Central Board of Secondary Education-pattern government schools, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed authorities to introduce all three academic streams — medical, non-medical and commerce — across these institutions. The move comes after the state rolled out the CBSE curriculum in 151 government schools from the current academic session, a step that has generated widespread enthusiasm among students and parents. The Chief Minister said the spike in admissions reflects growing public confidence in government schools and the new academic framework. He has instructed the Education Department to complete all necessary arrangements within a fixed timeline to ensure delivery of quality education, including staffing, infrastructure and subject availability.Data from the department highlights a significant jump in enrolment across districts. Government Senior Secondary School, Killar in Chamba recorded a 90.24 per cent increase, while Janjehli in Mandi saw a 90.43 per cent rise. Reckong Peo in Kinnaur registered a 50.50 per cent jump, Nerwa in Shimla 52.22 per cent, and Ghanahatti 26.27 per cent.
