The Commonwealth Sports delegation, led by president Dr Donald Rukare, finished a three-day review visit of venues in and around Ahmedabad that are likely to host competition during the 2030 Commonwealth Games.Dr Rukare and his team, which also included CEO Katie Sadleir and Director of Games & Assurance Darren Hall, were taken to key venues in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara and Ekta Nagar as part of the plans to host welcoming, sustainable and memorable games, which would mark 100 years of the Commonwealth movement.Although in the early days, CS chief Dr Rukare was impressed and said that India, as hosts, would deliver a landmark sports spectacle.“We are very impressed by the scale of planning, quality of venues, and the strong support from national and state authorities in India. Ahmedabad’s vision for the 2030 Commonwealth Games is both ambitious and forward-looking. The centenary presents a unique moment to celebrate the Games’ rich history while reimagining how they are delivered for the next 100 years. Our discussions this week have reinforced our confidence in India’s capability to deliver a truly landmark edition in 2030,” the Commonwealth Sports chief said.The delegation also held detailed discussions with Indian Olympic Association president P.T. Usha and officials of the sports ministry in this regard on Friday.India is honoured to host the Commonwealth Sport delegation and showcase the significant progress made towards delivering a world-class Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030. We are confident that, together with Commonwealth Sport and all stakeholders, we will deliver a truly historic and athlete-centric Games that inspire the Commonwealth,” the IOA chief said.15-17 sports in 2030Dr Rukare further informed that, unlike the 2026 Glasgow Games, the 2030 edition will have a full sports programme of 15-17 sports disciplines. However, he warned that it is too early to declare which sports disciplines will make the final cut for the 2030 edition.“We are happy that things are beginning to shape up because we believe in working together with the city, the country and our counterparts at Commonwealth Games India. Ahmedabad can host a wide range of events.  We should be able to announce about 16 to maybe 17 sports programmes in 2030. We can give a definite answer in terms of where we stand in a couple of months’ time,” Dr Rukare said.“We feel confident that in very short order, we should be able to announce the sports programme and the athletes that will come here, as it is really about the athletes, they would have a truly awesome time, not only in terms of the sporting program, but also the cultural side of it,” he added.
