In a move aimed at promoting cultural learning and nurturing local talent, Virsa Vihar has introduced music classes offering training in multiple genres, including classical, semi-classical, folk and vocal. The classes also provide training in several musical instruments such as harmonium, tabla, dholak and casio.The music sessions are of one hour duration and are conducted daily between 3 pm and 8 pm, offering flexible time slots for learners. Since commencing on March 16, the classes have been attracting music enthusiasts from diverse age groups. The convenient schedule enables school students, college-goers and working professionals to choose timings that suit them, making the programme widely accessible, officials said.They further noted that the initiative has been designed to cater to both beginners and those with prior training. An experienced instructor has also been roped in to provide structured guidance across multiple styles, ensuring that students receive a balanced and comprehensive learning experience.Explaining further, Paras, the music instructor asserted, “We train students in the nuances of Indian classical music while also introducing them to semi classical and folk forms. Vocal training is a prime focus with emphasis on voice modulation, pitch control and overall performance skills,” he said.He added that the response has been encouraging since the launch. “We currently have around 12 students and the numbers are gradually increasing. Such initiatives can play an important role in reviving interest in traditional art forms, especially among the younger generation,” he said.The programme has been kept affordable to encourage wider participation, with no registration fee and a monthly charge of Rs 500. Participants have also welcomed the initiative.Asif Shergill, a yoga and dance trainer said he enrolled to professionally train in music. “Music has always been part of my family. When I learnt about these classes, I saw it as an opportunity to develop my skills further,” he said.Similarly, Tanjeet Kaur, a kindergarten teacher said that the flexible timings have made it easier for her to continue learning. “After finishing my work, I can come here and receive professional training. The classes are helping me improve and refine my skills,” she added.
