In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar (Rural) Police, in a joint operation with Faridkot Police, cracked the grenade attack on the Bhindi Saida police station with the arrest of six accused and the recovery of two pistols from their possession.According to police, the preliminary investigations point to the involvement of a terror module, allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).DGP Punjab police said that the arrested accused were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based handler who was directing terror activities in Punjab from across the border.He said the probe has established that on the intervening night of March 29 and 30, the accused retrieved hand grenades, carried out reconnaissance of the target, and then executed the attack on the Bhindi Saida police station.The module members were reportedly radicalised and motivated with promises of hefty financial rewards to target police establishments in the state.An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Arms Act, DGP said.Senior police officials said further investigations are in progress to uncover the forward and backward linkages of the network and to completely dismantle the terror module.
