On the occasion of Baisakhi, also known as Khalsa Saajna Diwas (Khalsa foundation day), a heartwarming example of unity and brotherhood was witnessed outside Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district.Members of the Muslim Front Punjab set up a stall outside Takht Damdama Sahib, which is one of the five Takhts (temporal seats in Sikhism), and offered free sweet water to visitors. The refreshing drink was not just meant to beat the heat, but also to spread a message of peace and harmony.Jarnail Mofar Khan, president of the Front, said their aim is to bring communities closer. He shared that Sikh families in their village, Mofar, have always supported communal harmony, even giving some space in the gurdwara for their bhog ceremonies. He proudly added that during the difficult times of 1947, not a single Muslim in their village was harmed. The group plans to continue this service for two days. “We are doing this service of offering sweet water for the past almost decade here, and aim to continue it for our lifetime,” said Jarnail.Other members also highlighted that even during tense times in other parts of the country, Punjab has remained peaceful, especially during festivals like Eid.Many Sikh visitors appreciated the effort. Gurjant Singh from Sangrur said, “This is the real spirit of Punjab.” He added that people not only enjoyed the sweet water but also donated money to support the cause.
