Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar with Janata Dal (United) leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav as Deputy CMs. The three were administered the oath of office by Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at the Lok Bhavan.The occasion marks a landmark for the BJP, which got its first-ever leader to be the CM of Bihar today. A Cabinet order put out the details of the departments the three leaders will hold.The CM retained the Home portfolio along with 30 other departments, including Health, Agriculture, Industry and Vigilance. Samrat held Home even as the Deputy CM of Bihar.Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has got Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs and Information and Public Relations. He held these portfolios under Nitish Kumar too. Yadav has got eight departments, including Power, Finance and Planning and Development, which he was handling earlier too. After taking the oath, Samrat went to the Secretariat and held a review meeting with officials. “I will get down to work starting today. Rest assured the model of governance developed by Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar will be followed in Bihar,” he said.The change of guard in Bihar was necessitated by the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who has taken oath as a Rajya Sabha MP.Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant is said to have declined the Deputy CM-ship offer, saying he needed to work on the ground before considering himself eligible for major public positions.
