The Congress on Thursday suspended five of its MLAs for cross-voting during the March 16 Rajya Sabha elections, signaling a strict stance on party discipline.Cross-voting, where legislators vote against the party’s official candidate, is seen as a serious breach of trust. The move highlights internal challenges within the party and efforts to maintain unity ahead of upcoming political contests.Party leaders stated that such actions weaken organisational integrity and cannot be tolerated. The suspensions are also intended to send a clear message to other members about adhering to party directives during crucial elections and maintaining collective responsibility. The MLAs are Shalley Chaudhary (Naraingarh), Renu Bala (Sadhaura), Mohammad Illyas (Punhana), Mohammad Israil (Hathin) and Jarnail Singh (Ratia).
