An operative of the Bishnoi crime-syndicate, having roots in Abohar, was injured in an encounter with Sriganganagar police and three members of his “back-up team” were held with foreign-made weapons and live cartridges.Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar Yadav said Inspector Subhash Chandra Dheel’s team blocked a road near the bypass at about 4 am today. A suspicious young man was seen coming on a motorcycle. When police tried to stop him, the biker suddenly opened fire on the police. The bullet hit the police car directly. In retaliation, the police opened fire and a bullet hit the biker’s leg and he got injured. He was identified as Sanjeev Chadar alias Sanju (30), a resident of Roranwali, Hindumalkot. He was brought to the district hospital. Nine cases are registered against him in Rajasthan and Haryana, inquiry indicated.The SP and other officials reached the hospital and inspected the encounter site. Police recovered a 7.62 mm pistol, a magazine loaded with five cartridges and two empty shells from the spot.A team of Police Inspector Davinder Singh caught three suspicious youths riding a motorcycle on SSB Road. Zastava M57 TT .30bore Serbian pistol and 14 live cartridges were recovered from their possession. The arrested youth were identified as Rahul Michael (22) resident of Khairpur, Abohar, Varun Bagal (32) of Sadulshehar and Dev Dutt Bishnoi (29) of Roranwali. During interrogation, it surfaced that they were standing in the backup of Sanjeev Chadar, who was going towards Udyog Vihar with a pistol and cartridges to commit some criminal act.SP Yadav said one case against Chadar was filed in Hindumalkot in 2018 while the remaining eight cases were of 2022.Sanjeev, along with his associates, had carried out incidents of extortion and target firing on the instructions of the Bishnoi gang. On April 29, 2022, he entered a jeweller’s house in Sriganganagar and opened fire; he also opened fire on a grocery shop, injuring the shopkeeper.On April 30, a case of conspiracy to extort money was registered against him in Gurugram. Apart from this, an attempted murder case was registered in Pataudi on April 12, 2022. A case was also registered against him for possessing illegal weapons on July 23, 2022, in Sonipat. After about four years, Sanjeev was again plotting extortion and target firing in Sriganganagar, police said.
