Canada and much of North America are now more accessible to Indian travellers, with Air India on Friday joining hands with WestJet to offer seamless, single-ticket access to over 30 destinations across Canada and the United States. The tie-up significantly expands travel options beyond Toronto and Vancouver, reducing the need for multiple bookings and long, complicated transits.The agreement allows passengers to book combined itineraries on Air India and WestJet flights under one ticket, with coordinated baggage handling and smoother transfers, cutting transit hassles and improving the end-to-end journey for long-haul flyers.With the partnership in place, Air India passengers flying into Toronto and Vancouver can now connect onward to 17 Canadian cities, including Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Winnipeg, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, Saskatoon, Kelowna and St. John’s. The network further extends to 14 US cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Detroit, Orlando, Phoenix, Tampa, Nashville, Las Vegas, San Diego, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Springs, Santa Ana and Fort Myers.The expanded network comes amid rising travel demand between India and Canada, driven by strong diaspora links, student mobility and growing trade ties, with airlines stepping up competition in the lucrative North America market.Air India said select destinations, including Halifax, Calgary and St. John’s, will also be accessible via its European gateways, Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, offering additional routing flexibility for travellers.Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer at Air India, said Canada remains a key market for the airline, citing strong people-to-people connections and increasing trade between the two countries. He said the partnership will make travel across North America more accessible and convenient, with single-ticket itineraries, coordinated baggage handling and a wider choice of destinations.John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of the WestJet Group, said the agreement significantly expands access between India and Canada and makes it easier for passengers to travel across North America. He said the partnership combines Air India’s long-haul strength with WestJet’s regional network to create new travel options and improve the overall journey experience.Air India currently operates 17 weekly non-stop flights to Canada, including 10 services to Toronto and seven to Vancouver. The airline also runs 75 weekly flights to its European gateways that now act as key transit points under the interline arrangement, including 49 services to London Heathrow, five to London Gatwick, 14 to Paris Charles de Gaulle and seven to Amsterdam Schiphol.”Bookings for interline itineraries are now open on Air India’s official website, mobile application and through travel agents worldwide, marking a significant expansion of connectivity between India, Canada and the wider North American region,” said the airline official.
