India’s neighbourhood outreach has drawn appreciation from several countries as New Delhi continues to supply critical energy resources despite mounting pressures from the ongoing crisis in West Asia, the government said on Friday.Detailing the scale of assistance, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said multiple neighbouring nations have approached India for energy supplies, with New Delhi responding while carefully balancing its own domestic requirements.“We have received requests from several of our neighbouring nations asking us to make energy supplies available to them. We are supplying energy materials to a number of countries, keeping in mind our domestic needs and resource availability,” he said during the weekly media briefing.Highlighting country-specific support, Jaiswal noted that India supplied 22,000 metric tonnes of high-speed diesel to Bangladesh in March and continues deliveries this month. In the case of Sri Lanka, 38,000 metric tonnes of petroleum products were dispatched last month, reinforcing ongoing energy cooperation.India is also working to expand its support framework with Mauritius, following recent discussions during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit. “We are in the process of finalising a government-to-government agreement to improve Mauritius’s energy situation and enable supply of oil and gas,” Jaiswal said.Existing arrangements continue to underpin supplies to Nepal, where petroleum exports are routed under agreements between Indian Oil Corporation and its Nepali counterparts, ensuring uninterrupted flow based on demand. Similar cooperation remains in place with Bhutan.Talks are also underway with Maldives and Seychelles following requests for assistance, indicating a widening regional footprint of India’s energy diplomacy.Significantly, Jaiswal said partner governments across the neighbourhood have conveyed their appreciation for India’s continued support, particularly at a time when global supply chains remain strained due to instability in West Asia.The sustained outreach underscores India’s effort to position itself as a reliable energy partner in the region, leveraging both logistical capability and diplomatic engagement to stabilise its immediate neighbourhood amid global uncertainty.
