Hemant Sood, a noted first-generation entrepreneur, angel investor, and Managing Director of Findoc Finvest, is currently in the news after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at his premises in Ludhiana on Thursday as part of a FEMA investigation linked to Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora.Sood rose from a modest stockbroking background to build a multi-millionaire business empire. In 2005, he and a relative took the Angel Broking franchise in Ludhiana.He briefly exited in 2009 but returned the same year in partnership with Jalandhar-based businessman Chander (Chandrasekhar) Aggarwal. Their collaboration, driven by Sood’s strong communication skills and market expertise, helped him scale significantly in the financial services sector.Today, Sood heads Findoc Finvest Private Limited and its associated entities, operating from Ludhiana, Gurugram, and Gujarat’s GIFT City.The company offers services in stock trading, capital markets, derivatives, and structured finance. He is associated with nearly two dozen companies as director or partner, according to Ministry of Corporate Affairs records.His real estate venture, Hampton Homes — a luxury housing project on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh Highway developed in association with Sanjeev Arora’s company — remains his only major housing project so far.Sood resides in the upscale Sarabha Nagar area and is often seen in his luxury Toyota Vellfire, part of his collection of high-end vehicles.As an active angel investor, Sood holds personal stock investments reportedly worth over Rs 1,000 crore. He has backed several startups in fintech, food & beverage, biotech, and healthtech, including AlgoBulls, Leegality, and Snackible.A passionate advocate of algorithmic trading, he aims to provide young professionals and entrepreneurs with tools for automated trading and wealth creation.Well-connected in Ludhiana’s elite social circles, Sood frequently hosts and attends high-profile events. One such party he organised in Delhi, attended by several Bollywood celebrities, became the talk of the town.He was earlier close to former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and later extended strong support to AAP leader Sanjeev Arora, especially during the Ludhiana West by-elections.On the philanthropic side, Sood serves as President of Samvedna Trust and is a member of the Board of Governors at IIT Mandi. He is also a regular member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO).The ED raids on April 17 targeted multiple locations linked to Sood, Sanjeev Arora and Chandrasekhar Aggarwal across Punjab and Haryana.Sood has not issued any public statement regarding the raids so far. No formal charges have been filed against him in public reports till now.
