The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Jalandhar zonal office is undergoing a major transition as it witnessed a large number of transfers ahead of the recent raids linked to two senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in Punjab — MP Ashok Kumar Mittal and minister Sanjeev Arora.A large number of officials have been transferred in and out of the Jalandhar office, affecting its functioning. The investigation into the cases is currently being handled and supervised by senior officials at the ED headquarters in Delhi.Officials said while routine annual transfers usually involved two-three officers per station, this time 13 officials of various ranks were moved out of Jalandhar, including some who had served for barely a year. With nearly an equal number yet to join, the office is facing a temporary staff shortage.Earlier, Joint Director Ravi Tewari, the senior-most ED officer in Jalandhar, was transferred to Chennai shortly after summons were issued to former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his son Raninder Singh. His successor Dinesh Puruchuri is currently holding additional charge of Jalandhar, while operating primarily from Delhi.By the end of March, 12 more staff members were transferred. Several Assistant Directors were shifted to various cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Jammu, while new officers have been posted to Jalandhar from Chandigarh, Jammu, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. At least five Enforcement Officers were also shifted to different locations. Some replacements have been made, along with a new recruit joining the office.A senior official said it could take 20 to 30 days for the reconstituted team to stabilise and resume investigations at full pace. He described the scale of transfers as unusual, noting that such large-scale reshuffles are not typical.
