In a decisive move to insulate Gurugram from urban flooding, GMDA CEO PC Meena has issued a “non-negotiable” May 15 deadline for the completion of all critical drainage and stormwater projects.Following an intensive ground inspection on Monday, Meena warned officials that delays in monsoon preparedness would not be tolerated.The race against time: Key projects & deadlinesThe Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is fast-tracking several high-impact infrastructure works to ensure the city remains functional during the heavy rains. The primary focus remains on:Leg-4 Master Drain: Accelerating flow to prevent overflow in central sectors. Tau Devi Lal Stadium box drain:Aimed at fixing the chronic waterlogging on Medanta Road and Rajiv Chowk. Manesar channel integration:Linking the CETP Manesar Channel with Leg-3 and Leg-4 drains for seamless water discharge.Strategic Interventions at Critical HotspotNH-48 and Narsinghpur ReliefTo tackle the infamous bottlenecks at Narsinghpur , the GMDA is constructing a dedicated drain to divert service lane water into the Badshahpur drain. In a collaborative effort, Meena met with NHAI officials to expedite a new culvert on NH-48, a move expected to provide major relief to commuters on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway.SPR and Dwarka Expressway ConnectivityAt the Central Peripheral Road (CPR), desilting is underway for a 6.5-km RCC box drain. Stretching from the NPR/SPR cloverleaf to Sector 37D, this network will connect Vatika Chowk to the Najafgarh drain protecting the city’s newest residential hubs.Sewage Management at DhankotDuring the inspection, the CEO flagged illegal untreated sewage discharge at Dhankot.Immediate orders were issued to:Divert illegal discharge away from drainage channels.Install Aerators at STPs to boost oxygen levels and maintain pH balance.Ensure only treated water reaches Jhajjar via irrigation channels.Action Plan for a Flood-Resilient CityDuring a high-level review at the GMDA headquarters, Meena outlined a multi-pronged strategy for the coming weeks:”Completion of all stormwater drainage works before the monsoon is non-negotiable.
