Tehran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has urged the world body to compel the United States to “immediately and unconditionally” release the Iranian commercial vessel Touska, along with its crew and their families. In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the Security Council, Iravani raised “urgent concern” over what he described as unlawful actions by US forces, calling the seizure a “hostile and unlawful act” and a serious violation of international law.The Iranian envoy said the vessel was targeted using “coercion, intimidation, and reckless endangerment” of those on board, asserting that the incident amounted to a breach of fundamental international legal principles, including the prohibition on aggression.Iravani further urged the United Nations to take immediate steps to ensure accountability and secure the release of the ship, its crew, and their families, stressing that continued US actions risk escalating tensions in an already volatile region. The appeal comes amid heightened confrontation between Washington and Tehran following the US seizure of the Iranian-flagged container ship in the Gulf of Oman earlier this week as part of its naval blockade enforcement.Iran has strongly condemned the move as “piracy” and a violation of an existing ceasefire, warning that such actions undermine diplomatic efforts and threaten regional stability.
