Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday cited record high voter turnout in West Bengal to claim a saffron surge in the eastern state.Addressing an election rally in Krishnanagar, the prime minister said there was strong discontent against TMC’s “mis-governance and lack of accountability”.“People are tired of its corruption and inefficiency. Record voting is going on. People are venting their anger. The BJP is set for a win on May 4,” Modi said.He referred to his recent stop to relish the Bengali snack of jhalmuri in Jhargram saying, “I had jhalmuri and the TMC is feeling the heat (Jhalmuri maine khaayi, mirchi TMC ko lag rahi hai,” said the prime minister.Earlier today, BJP general secretary organisation BL Santosh took to X to laud the record voting in Bengal saying this is a sign of change.“At 11 am, West Bengal has polled 41.11% & TN is at 37.56%. Both have set the pace. Now it’s time to ensure smooth finish. Both are racing towards never before numbers. Both states voting impressively for an impressive CHANGE,” Santosh said.He added that the West Bengal polled nearly 19% by 9.30 am, up from 15.4% in 2021.“Considering voter list upgradation through SIR, looks like Bengal will click 90%. Well done Bengal. Keep pushing. You are about to witness a momentous change for better,” Santosh tweeted.
