BBC South West weather presenter Alex Osborne has quit her role after 16 years and is heading to rival channel ITV.
She took to X to reveal the news in a bombshell statement that fans were not expecting.

Alex penned: “…And the ‘news’ is…. I’m going to @ITV! Will be sad to leave after years at the BBC, but excited for the next chapter as a journalist…”
She also confirmed when her final day is as she said: “4th May, my last day!”
Her friends and colleagues rushed to the comments section to wish her well with her new job.
One expressed: “Good luck, Alex! Sad to lose you from the Beeb – it was always fun with you on Somerset Breakfast. Best of luck with everything.”

Another commented: “Best of luck with your new job. Making new memories with ITV.”
Somebody else wrote: “Sad news for those of us who enjoy your work on the beeb, but good luck you have I’m sure so much more to give.”
Yet another enthused: “Good luck Alex! You’ll be fab at ITV!”
While a fifth added: “Congratulations Alex hope the move goes well.”
The host kicked off her journey at the BBC back in 2010 as a Live Event Showcase Presenter before going on to have many other jobs with the broadcaster.
Amongst those are as a Travel Presenter and Entertainment Reporter for BBC Radio Devon, an Assistant Producer/Researcher on BBC Radio 3 and a Production Assistant for BBC Factual Television.
Alex isn’t the only long-serving presenter to leave the BBC recently as the iconic Carol Kirkwood revealed she had quit back in January.
The much-loved weather presenter said in a statement: “t’s been an absolute privilege to bring you the weather every day.
“My job is something I’ve never taken for granted and I’ve loved every minute! From early starts and all manner of forecasts, I’ve shared it with incredible colleagues at BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather and programmes across the BBC.
“I’d like to thank them for their support and friendship which has meant the world.

“And to those watching and listening at home – thank you for all the kindness you have shown me over the years, being part of your mornings has been a joy.
“This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away.
“I’ll carry with me the most wonderful memories.”
The BBC also released their own statement, where they said that Carol would be “greatly missed”.
“Carol’s contribution to BBC News and BBC Weather has been exceptional. From major national moments to the everyday forecasts that are such an important part of our audiences’ lives, she has set the gold standard for our accurate, valued journalism – always delivered with an appropriately sunny outlook,” the broadcaster said.
“She will be greatly missed by teams across the BBC. We wish her all the best for the future.”
Her final show was on April 1 as she bid farewell to the BBC after 28 years of working with them.
Carol, 63, presented her usual weather segment before being joined by her colleagues Sally Nugent and Jon Kay in the studio.
Jon said: “Gosh one forecast left,” to which Carol said: “I can hardly believe it.”
The hosts then surprised Carol with a look back at her three decade career with tributes from a host of famous faces.
