A day after the Centre advised an OTT platform to withhold the release of its upcoming series “Lawrence of Punjab”, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Balkaur Singh — father of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala — today allegedly received threatening messages from the Bishnoi gang.Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Advocate General Maninderjit Singh Bedi, all of whom had opposed the release, also received intimidating messages from international numbers. The messages, sent on WhatsApp, warned of dire consequences, prompting the Punjab Police to launch an immediate investigation. Randhawa has even informed the DGP about the threat. He further alleged that gangsters were operating with the “patronage of central agencies”, questioning how Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, was still able to influence activities outside prison. He also claimed that gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is lodged in Dibrugarh Jail, was openly using a mobile phone.Earlier this week, Warring had filed a PIL in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, while DGP Yadav had urged the state government to approach the Centre to block the release. Acting on these concerns, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an advisory to the OTT platform to not go ahead with the April 27 premiere.
