With the Rajya Sabha secretariat accepting the merger of the seven AAP Rajya Sabha members into the BJP, the party’s complete focus is now on keeping its large flock of 94 MLAs together. While some MLAs, who were given tickets to contest the polls in 2022 by either Raghav Chadha or Sandeep Pathak, are being closely watched by the party high command, the party has summoned a number of MLAs to Jalandhar for Wednesday morning.Sources in the Aam Aadmi Party have told The Tribune that these MLAs will be meeting the party top brass on Wednesday and will be briefed on the way forward for the party and how to keep the party cadre united. Since Sandeep Pathak had built the party cadre from scratch and has stayed in touch with the organisation’s office bearers, the MLAs will be briefed by the Punjab affairs in-charge, Manish Sisodia, on how to “save the organisation.”An MLA from the Malwa region, requesting anonymity, said that although the initial shock of the MPs’ defection has subsided, all efforts are now underway to save the organisation. It is understood that certain MLAs from Ferozepur, Patiala, and Ropar, who were given tickets to contest polls by Chadha or Pathak in 2022, are being closely watched and their daily meetings are being monitored. “Some of us have been asked to stay in touch with them and closely watch where they are going and who they are meeting. Any movement out of the state will be reported,” another AAP MLA confided in The Tribune. Some of the chairmen and vice-chairpersons of the state government’s numerous boards and corporations, appointed by the aforementioned Rajya Sabha MPs, are also under scrutiny. “The party top brass is seriously contemplating removing them,” he said.
