Sawe crossed the line in 1:59.30 to set the fastest marathon time ever and the first sub-two-hour effort – followed 11 seconds later by Yomif Kejelcha.
Kenyan Sawe, who wore the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, is set to bank a whopping £740,000 from his historic achievement – including plenty of tasty bonuses.
Tigst Assefa also defended her crown in stunning fashion.
Her time of 2:15.41 beat her effort from 12 months ago by nine seconds.

Boudewijn Dominicus did it in a suit and smart dress shoes and yet still ran it in 3:21.42.
