The Indian women’s kabaddi team scripted history by winning its sixth consecutive gold medal at the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games held in Sanya, China. This is India’s first gold at the current edition of the Asian Beach Games. India defeated Sri Lanka 47-31 in the final played on Monday morning. The 30-minute contest initially appeared close, but the Indian team pulled ahead decisively in the latter stages.Speaking to The Tribune from China, 25-year-old Simran Kamboj, a team member from Panjawa village of the Lambi Assembly segment in Muktsar district, said, “Though our score was higher, it looked like a close contest in the beginning. Later, we built a good lead and won. I am a raider, but played as a defender today.” She added that it was her debut appearance at the Asian Beach Games.
