Nkunku, 28, made the move for £15m less than he joined the Blues after his switch from RB Leipzig in 2023.
The French forward disappointed in West London as he managed only 18 goals in 62 appearances.
His time at Stamford Bridge was severely hampered by injuries that prevented him from a consistent run in the team.
Nkunku found an escape route from Chelsea to Milan after two seasons in England.

Chelsea forward, 24, ‘lined up for sensational summer transfer to Barcelona’
However, it does not appear that he will have a permanent home in the Lombardy region of Italy.
Tutto Mercato have claimed that Milan have transfer listed Nkunku ahead of the summer transfer window.
It is suggested that he does not fit the profile wanted by manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Allegri prefers to play with a more physical striker such as Niclas Fullkrug who was signed on loan from West Ham in January.

He has also fallen behind the likes of Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Santiago Gimenez in the pecking order.
Nkunku has not set the world alight on the pitch in Italy with just six goals in 31 appearances in all competitions.
Five of his goals have come in Serie A, while his sixth came in the Coppa Italia.
Nkunku is expected to have interest in the summer as he was approached by Turkish side Fenerbahce in January.
Clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also expected to make contact with the attacker.

In December, he was even tipped with a potential swap deal with Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski.
Nkunku did not leave Chelsea empty-handed despite his disappointing spell.
He did pick up winners’ medals for the Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs in 2025.
Nkunku’s sale was made to allow for the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.
The Argentine has also been an underwhelming arrival at Chelsea with just eight goals in 41 outings this season.
JattvibeSport exclusively revealed that the winger was slammed by his team-mates during the loss to United earlier this month.
