The SGPC on Wednesday appointed Major Singh as general manager of Golden Temple. He replaced Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, who has been appointed additional secretary with charge of the accounts, publication, and Sikh Research Board.The general manager of Golden Temple oversees all arrangements at the holiest Sikh shrine, including the Sri Guru Ram Das Ji Langar Hall. In this elaborate work, he is assisted by over 20 managers.After the change in the administrative structure of the Golden Temple, Major Singh assumed his duties in accordance with Gurmat Maryada. He was honoured with a ‘siropa’ during the ceremony.Upon assuming office, he first offered prayers at Golden Temple. He thanked SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami and assured him that he would fulfil the trust placed in him. Major Singh has extensive experience with SGPC for the past 30 years.He said he would use this experience to make the arrangements more transparent and accessible for devotees who visit the shrine daily. Earlier, he served as manager in several gurdwaras.
