NEARLY four million Britons have used weight-loss jabs such as Mounjaro or Wegovy, a survey suggests.

One in every 14 is trying the injections or has done in the past, according to a poll by the Food Foundation.

That is the equivalent of 3.85million adults, while a further one in 12 — or 4.4million — says they are thinking of turning to them in the future.

The figures reflect the seemingly unstoppable appeal of the drugs but fuelled concerns about users obtaining them illicitly.

Dr Leyla Hannbeck, of the Independent Pharmacies Association, said: “Ever more patients are turning to weight loss jabs and it is important that they get support from trained professionals. It is dangerous when people source jabs via social media or their local beauty parlour.”

Two thirds of Britons are overweight and the GLP-1 drugs, which work by blocking hormones that fuel appetite, are seen as a major breakthrough in the fight against the flab.

An estimated 1.6million people are taking the medicines but there are no official statistics as most are bought privately.

NHS prescriptions rocketed from 1.4million to 2.7million between 2023 and 2025.

Yesterday, Mounjaro manufacturer Eli Lilly announced that its profits had more than doubled on the back of bumper jab sales.

In their report, The GLP-1 Revolution, Food Foundation experts Rebecca Tobi and Sarah Buszard warned against calling the jabs a “silver bullet”.

They said they were not a quick fix and should not distract from trying to live healthier lives.

The Food Foundation surveyed 6,044 UK adults in January and February this year.
