THE Real Greek is set to shutter nine of its restaurants across the UK – with four locations in London alone.

This follows the restaurant chain’s near-collapse into administration.

The Real Greek will close nine locations across Dulwich Village, Spitalfields and The Strand, among others, after striking a rescue deal with The Karali Group.

The group, which also owns Côte Brasserie, confirmed it would buy 19 of the chain’s 28 outlets.

This has meant the brand’s remaining nine restaurants are expected to close shortly, resulting in the loss of 151 jobs.

However, a remaining 358 jobs would be saved as a result of the pre-pack administration and sale.

Japanese restaurant group Toridoll, which bought the Mediterranean restaurant chain in 2023, said it had planned to appoint administrators last week.

The firm said The Real Greek had suffered financially following “deterioration in the economic environment”.

Citing cost inflation, poor trading conditions and rising energy prices, Toridoll added that these factors “created a more challenging operating environment for the hospitality industry than initially anticipated”.

Other sites in London, including Bankside, Covent Garden, Marylebone and Soho, will remain unaffected by the closures.

The Real Greek was founded in 1999 by chef Theodore Kyriakou, and was later bought by Clapham House in 2004.

The chain said it aimed to bring bold “Eastern Mediterranean” flavours, honest cooking and “heartfelt hospitality” to diners.
