WITH polls for the local elections closed, early results indicate big gains for Reform UK at the expense of a miserable showing by the Labour Party.
Votes are still being counted in what is the biggest set of elections since Labour’s landslide general election in July 2024.

It may get even worse for Sir Keir Starmer and his party as there is likely to be an increase in Green supporters in London amongst the inner boroughs and a surge in Reform voters in the suburbs.
With Labour currently holding 21 of the capitals 32 town halls, big losses may cast further doubt on the current prime minister.

Around 25,000 candidates are fighting for over 5,000 seats on 136 councils in the local elections.

Many votes are still being counted, with most London boroughs finding out the results tonight or tomorrow Credit: PA
And as previously mentioned, polls have already closed – with results set to come in all the way up until Saturday evening.
Some parts of London had more to decide on then just councillors, as Tower Hamlets, Newham, Croydon, Hackney and Lewisham also needed to vote on a directly elected mayor.
The majority of boroughs are set to release their full results later today or even as late as tomorrow.
However a handful have already been declared-
Bexley- Conservative Party majority
Ealing- Labour Party majority
Hammersmith & Fulham- Labour Party majority
Havering- Reform UK majority
Kensington & Chelsea- Conservative Party majority
Merton- Labour Party majority
Richmond- Liberal Democrats majority
Sutton- Liberal Democrats majority
Westminster- Conservative Party majority
Wandsworth- No overall control
Most notably from the results so far, Labour has lost two boroughs in both Westminster and Wandsworth.
