A political controversy erupted after a resident of Mehta alleged that traffic diversions imposed during CM Bhagwant Mann’s ‘Shukrana Yatra’ delayed him from reaching the hospital with his pregnant wife, resulting in a miscarriage.Following the allegations, Opposition leaders intensified their attack on the Punjab Government, accusing it of prioritising VIP movement over public convenience and safety. The allegations triggered sharp reactions, with several political leaders questioning the CM over his ‘Aam Aadmi’ image. Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia launched a scathing attack on Mann, saying, “The Shukrana Yatra, which was being celebrated as a show of power, has snatched away a child from a mother.” He further alleged that the family’s tragedy was a result of “VIP routes and government arrogance”.Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira and leaders of Waris Punjab De also raised questions over the incident.According to Jugraj Singh, the incident took place on Thursday during the CM’s visit to Amritsar. In a video circulated on social media, Singh claimed that his wife suddenly experienced severe pain, following which he immediately rushed her to Guru Amar Das Hospital in his private vehicle. He alleged that several roads had been blocked and traffic diverted by the police due to the visit. Because of the restrictions, he reportedly had to travel nearly 20 km extra and reached the hospital 40 to 50 minutes later than expected.Singh further alleged that his wife remained in extreme pain throughout the delay.
