Punjab Power, Industries, Investment Promotion and Local Government Minister Sanjeev Arora has been arrested by the sleauths of Directorate of Enforcement after a hour search operation at his official residence in Chandigarh’s posh Sector 2.Even as the entire rank and file of the Aam Aadmi Party, led by the National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stood by him, the ED said he has been arrested in a case related to money laundering.Arora is considered the most powerful minister in the Bhagwant Mann Cabinet and was largely responsible for forging ties between AAP government and state’s industrialists.The ED officials had reached Arora’s Chandigarh residence in the early hours of the morning. Around 20 officials of the ED had come in eight vehicles. This is the third search conducted on the AAP leader, with one search operation having been conducted less than a month ago.Official sources in ED said that searches were at five premises in Delhi, Gurgaon and Chandigarh, on the office premises of Hampton Sky Realty Limited- promoted by Arora’s family, and house of Sanjeev Arora.“ED had detected a case of large scale money laundering done by Sanjeev Arora through his company in fake GST purchases of mobile phones of more than Rs 100 crore and subsequent exports to round trip illegitimate funds from Dubai to India. Multiple fake GST purchase bills have bene obtained from non existing firms in Delhi to claim fake ITC and Also refund of GST on export credit and also duty draw back , there causing loss to exchequer and personal enrichment,” said the official in ED.
