Investigation into the recovery of a half-burnt woman’s body from a forest near Dhaula Kuan in Sirmaur district has taken a dramatic turn, with police tracing crucial links to neighbouring Haryana and detaining a suspect in connection with the case. The body of the woman, believed to be around 36 years old, was found in a forest area under the Paonta Sahib police subdivision, triggering panic across the region. Police suspect an attempt was made to burn the body to conceal the victim’s identity and destroy evidence.Sources said the breakthrough came after Haryana’s Barara police contacted Sirmaur police regarding the movement of a suspect whose location was traced to the district. Acting on the information, police detained the accused near Bata Bridge late on Wednesday evening.During the investigation, CCTV footage reportedly surfaced showing the suspect transporting a sack on a rickshaw in the Barara area. Investigators suspect the woman’s body was concealed inside the sack before being brought to Himachal Pradesh. Sources further claimed that a kidnapping case had already been registered against the accused in Haryana.Preliminary investigation points towards an alleged love affair between the accused and the deceased woman. Police are also probing claims that the two had allegedly planned to consume poison together. However, investigators suspect the woman consumed the poisonous substance and died, while the accused survived and later attempted to dispose of the body.Sources said the accused allegedly transported the body to the Dhaula Kuan forest area before setting it on fire in an attempt to erase evidence. Another aspect being examined is the possibility that the accused continued roaming in and around the Paonta Sahib area even after the crime.Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Nishchint Singh Negi confirmed that Haryana Police had contacted the district police in connection with the case and one suspect had been taken into custody. He said detailed information would be shared only after completion of the investigation and verification of facts. The postmortem examination of the deceased is scheduled to be conducted at Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College today. Investigators believe the report could provide vital clues and lead to further revelations in the sensational case.
