Justice Swarana K Sharma of the Delhi High Court on Thursday initiated criminal contempt action against AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Durgesh Pathak in the excise case.Justice Sharma also drew contempt proceedings against AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Vinay Mishra and Saurabh Bhardwaj.Justice Sharma said, “Arvind Kejriwal orchestrated a calculated campaign of vilification against me on social media.”She took exception to the social media posts attributing “political allegiance” to her, selectively targeting the court.“Kejriwal sought to destroy my reputation instead of availing legal remedies after I refused to recuse,” Justice Sharma said, adding, “Deliberate attempt to lower the court’s authority can’t be permitted in the guise of free speech.”She said she is not recusing herself but the excise case will now be heard by another bench.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, thanked Justice Sharma for “upholding the institution’s dignity”.
