WREXHAM have released former Premier League star Jay Rodriguez after 18 months at the North Wales club.

The ex-Burnley, Southampton and West Brom man, who has had an injury-crocked season, was a key part of the squad who won promotion to the Championship last year.

The news came after Wrexham announced their retained list this afternoon with Rodriguez, 36, being one of six players released.

He signed an 18-month deal in January 2025 after joining Phil Parkinson’s side from Burnley.

After dropping down a league, Rodriguez was straight in the starting eleven for the Red Dragons and made 17 league appearances as Wrexham sealed a return to the Championship, finishing second to Birmingham City.

However his 2025-26 season was heavily impacted by an ankle injury which kept him on the sidelines until his first appearance came on Boxing Day.

The knock returned in February, keeping him out of four games before happening again in April to bring his season to an end.

Rodriguez made just seven league appearances in the campaign just gone.

The forward’s most prolific days came in the Premier League – he signed for newly-promoted Southampton from Burnley in 2012 for a reported fee of £7million.

He made 126 appearances for the club over a five-year period scoring 35 times – it was while he was at Southampton that he was called up to the England squad.

He won his only cap for England on November 15 2013 in a friendly match against Chile at Wembley Stadium.

West Brom then snapped up Rodriguez for a reported fee of £12m as Saints made a profit on their investment in 2013.

He scored 33 goals in 90 appearances for the Baggies between 2017 and 2019.

Rodriguez then returned to his first club Burnley in the summer of 2019 for a reported fee of £10m in instalments – he scored 35 goals in his second spell at the club which lasted six seasons.
