Another scandal has rocked the corridors of Hockey India (HI). On a day when India’s U-18 team was to take on Australia in a home series in Bhopal, a member of the coaching staff of the men’s team, Sudhir Golla, was asked to leave the premises after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him.The case pertains to a complaint lodged against the coach with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Jharkhand, where allegations of dereliction of duty and sexual misconduct at the Centre of Excellence Eklavya Boys and Girls Hockey Training Centre in Morabadi, Ranchi, were filed against him.* Other cases in recent pastApril 2026: An HI staff member reported by women officials and coaches for sexual harassment– Dec 2025: Senior women’s hockey team coach Harendra Singh resigned after team members sent a letter to the Sports Ministry, accusing him of lacking tactical prowess and misconduct– Nov 2025: Contract of junior women’s coach not renewed after allegations of sexual misconduct days before the 2025 FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in Santiago, ChileIn an official order dated May 11, a copy of which is with The Tribune, the directorate has already removed the coach and assigned a woman to take over the coaching duty.This is the fourth major case of sexual harassment in over six months. The contract of a junior women’s hockey coach was not renewed after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him days before the 2025 FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile.In December 2025, the coach of the senior women’s hockey team, Harendra Singh, resigned after senior members of the team sent a letter to the Ministry of Sports, accusing him of lacking tactical prowess and misconduct. In April this year, an HI staff member was accused of sexual harassment of women officials and coaches.While HI president Dilip Tirkey was unavailable for comments, the federation released a statement on the decision taken on Friday.“Sudhir Golla, who was part of the Indian sub-junior men’s hockey team’s support staff, has been removed from the coaching camp in Bhopal with immediate effect by HI after it came to the federation’s notice that he had been removed from Eklavya Hockey Centre following complaints from players,” the HI told The Tribune on Friday.“Player safeguarding remains a top priority for us and we remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all athletes,” the HI said.Meanwhile, an HI source said a few officials in the federation had brought a bad name to the organisation. “We have been found wanting when it comes to safeguarding issues. Not proper inquiry has been held in all previous cases. It seems someone in the federation is trying to save those who have allegedly committed grave sins,” he said.
