Support has poured in for sisters Prabhjot Kaur and Veerpal Kaur after The Tribune highlighted their struggle to continue education even after excelling in the board exams, all due to devastating financial hardship caused by the state floods last year.People from all walks of life reached out to extend help after reading the report published on Saturday.Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney announced through a social media post that he would bear the sisters’ educational expenses till higher education.Industrialist PC Sondhi, the founder trustee of FC Sondhi Charitable Trust, also stepped forward to support the girls.Owner of a PR agency associated with a prominent film star also contacted the reporter, conveying the actor’s willingness to extend support to the two sisters.Several educational institutions have also come forward with offers of free education. Anoop Watts, Principal of DAV College Jalandhar, contacted the family and offered Prabhjot free education along with hostel facilities.Manjit Singh, Chairman of the Doaba Group of Colleges, assured support.Students of Government Senior Secondary School in Tibba, Prabhjot scored 88.2 per cent in Class XII, while her younger sister Veerpal secured 88.7 per cent in Class X.The sisters continued studying even as their world crumbled around them. Their village, Rampur Gaura, was among the worst-hit areas during the catastrophic floods, when the Beas changed its course, swallowing vast stretches of farmland and leaving families devastated overnight.Their 17 acres of farmland were completely destroyed as standing paddy crops were washed away.
