FRESHEN UP: For wooden patio furniture, a little care can bring it back to its best.

Give it a light sanding, followed by a fresh coat of shed or fence paint to help cover any weathering from the previous winter.

For old metal patio furniture, spruce it up using a wire brush to get rid of rust, then give it a lick of specialist paint, such as Ronseal garden paint, usually £11.99, now £8.99 at robertdyas.co.uk.

SLAB SAVER: Refresh your patio area by pulling up weeds from between paving slabs and use a brush and warm water to scrub off dirt and grime.

If tough stains won’t budge you could also add an outdoor rug to sit under your patio furniture to add some colour.

There’s a great vintage striped rug at onlinehomeshop.com, reduced from £17 to £7.

ADD SOME COLOUR: A fresh set of cushion covers can instantly transform your outdoor seating.

Give your existing cushions a lift with a coat of special fabric spray paint so the cushions stay flexible and protected from any bad weather.

Try Rust-Oleum fabric multi-surface spray paint, 150ml, £7, B&Q.

Just spray and leave to dry for a fresh new look.

DIY SEATING: If you want a total refresh but there’s no budget for new chairs, you could make your own pallet furniture.

Check out your local dump, Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree for unwanted pallets, as many people give them away for free.

Go to youtube.com/@great homeideas for a tutorial on how to build your own.

SHADY BUY: A faded, torn or broken parasol lets down the whole look of a dining set.

Check out the bargain range at B&M, such as the Vancouver parasol for £10, or take a look at the selection at argos.co.uk and get 20 per cent off a selected range when you use the code GREEN20 at checkout.

All prices are correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
