Submitting the statement of a deceased person in connection with the murder case of a US-based woman at Kilaraipur has landed former Dehlon SHO Sukhjinder Singh and Head Constable Sanjiv Kumar in trouble. The duo has been booked for allegedly fabricating false evidences and dishonestly using forged documents. Further action against them will be taken according to directions issued by the court where the documents had been submitted.“We have taken action against the police personnel on the basis of observations made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding the statement. Further action will be taken according to the directions of the court where the case is pending,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Angrej Singh. As per police records, Gurpreet Singh of Kilaraipur, who died on May 29, 2025, had allegedly recorded his statement on September 19 – months after his death — before then SHO Dehlon Sukhjinder Singh in connection with the sensational murder of NRI woman Rupinder Kaur.According to the statement, Gurpreet claimed that Rupinder was last seen at a house in Kilaraipur on July 12, 2025.A scrutiny of the statement revealed that Gurpreet had allegedly stated that he met Rupinder in June 2025, saw her at the house of key accused Sukhjit Singh on July 12, noticed smoke coming from the house around 8 pm the same day, and saw Sukhjit shifting a jute bag – allegedly carrying Pupinder’s mortal remains – on a motorcycle the next day.The issue came under judicial scrutiny after the Punjab and Haryana High Court had sought an explanation from the police by Monday, during the hearing of a CRM filed by one of the accused, Manvir Singh of Kilaraipur.Earlier, Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Sumeet Goel had ordered the Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Punjab, to look into the matter and submit a report by way of an affidavit.Following the court’s directions, the SIT conducted an inquiry and reportedly found then SHO Sukhjinder responsible for the irregularities.During the investigation, Sukhjinder had denied recording the statement or signing the document. He also argued that the file had remained with HC Sanjiv Kumar after his transfer on October 4, 2025.The Dehlon police is probing the murder case of NRI woman Rupinder, who had allegedly gone missing during her stay at the house of Sukhjit Singh and Manvir Singh in Kilaraipur in July 2025.Manvir, one of the suspects, had challenged the authenticity of the statement of the deceased person, which was attached as an annexure with the chargesheet presented in court.
