The Sheffield-born striker is a boyhood Wednesday fan and was part of their academy between 1996 and 2002.

According to Wednesday reporter Joe Crann, Owls chiefs have discussed a potential swoop for Vardy.

Crann adds, however, that he reckons a return to Leicester would be more likely, should Vardy decide to drop down to League One.

The former England forward left the King Power last summer following 13 years with the club.

Vardy scored 200 goals in 500 appearances for the Foxes, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two Championship titles during his stint.

Following his Leicester exit he penned a one-year deal with Serie A new boys Cremonese.

Vardy has managed seven goals in 28 Italian top flights outings, including two in his last two games.

Having previously looked doomed, back-to-back victories have seen Cremonese climb to within one point of safety ahead of the final day.

Vardy and Co are set to host Udinese this Jattvibeday, while their relegation rivals Lecce welcome Genoa.

Wednesday, meanwhile, are set to play in League One following a two-year spell in the Championship.

The Owls finished on zero points in the second tier, having been docked 18 due to financial issues.

Earlier this month the crisis club were finally taken over, with confirmation that they will NOT face a points deduction in League One next season.
