Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Cabinet minister Aman Arora, who was in Ludhiana on Tuesday, alleged that the BJP was resorting to “arm-twisting tactics” to target AAP leaders. He said such moves would not dampen the party’s spirit and that AAP would emerge stronger. “The BJP will have to pay the price for this,” he categorically said.Arora, along with AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, Kultar Singh Sandhwan and other MLAs, was in the city for a high-level meeting regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).Further targeting the BJP, Arora alleged that central agencies were being used to put pressure and register cases against political opponents, but these actions would not affect the AAP or Punjabis.Referring to jailed minister Sanjeev Arora, he said he had remained in touch with the minister’s family and described him as a man of integrity and courage.“Sanjeev Arora is a courageous person and will come out completely clean,” Arora said, adding that the AAP would not bow before the BJP’s alleged arm-twisting tactics.Responding to questions over the rise in fuel prices, Arora accused the BJP and the Prime Minister misleading the public. Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent foreign visits, he remarked, “The Prime Minister himself is visiting five countries abroad. Does his plane run on water?”AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia alleged that the BJP had effectively started the election process in Punjab through ED raids, describing the move as an act of political vendetta.Sisodia claimed that the BJP had historically pursued “anti-Punjab policies,” citing issues related to Chandigarh, Bhakra and Panjab University. “The BJP has never stood with Punjab,” he said.On the issue of SIR, Sisodia alleged that the BJP wanted votes to be split in order to gain political advantage, but asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party would not allow this to happen.Commenting on Sanjeev Arora’s case, Sisodia said, “Sanjeev Arora has neither bowed nor broken. He is fighting with determination and will return clean.” He further described SIR as a “dangerous conspiracy” by the BJP but said AAP would strongly oppose it.Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also criticised the SIR exercise, terming it a “dangerous design” of the BJP that could adversely affect democracy. “Punjabis will fight for their rights and will not allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attack democracy,” he said, adding that ED raids were acting as the BJP’s “election agents.”The meeting was held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan in Ludhiana.
