People in Sri Ganganagar burst into cheers on left-arm spinner Manav Suthar’s selection in the Indian Test squad by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the upcoming solitary Test match against Afghanistan.This marks his maiden inclusion in the Indian Test team, making him the first player from the Sri Ganganagar district to earn the prestigious honor of playing Test cricket.Manav Suthar, a classical left-arm orthodox spinner, who specialises in troubling batsmen through a skillful blend of flight, turn and variations in pace, is also a handy lower-order batsman and has established himself as a capable bowling all-rounder. Born on August 3, 2002, Manav is currently playing for the Gujarat Titans franchise in the 2026 edition of the IPL.Manav Suthar has made his way to the national team on the back of stellar performances in domestic cricket. During the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season, he emerged as Rajasthan’s most successful bowler, claiming 39 wickets in just 6 matches.He also scored two half-centuries during this period. He captured the nation’s attention during the 2024 Duleep Trophy, where he claimed 7 wickets in a single innings (7/49) while playing for India C against India D. In his first-class career so far, he has amassed 129 wickets and 945 runs across 29 matches. Notably, he reached the milestone of 100 first-class wickets in a mere 24 matches.He also made a significant impact while playing for India A during the 2023 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, where he took 10 wickets in 5 matches.His record includes several memorable performances for India A, including a five-wicket haul against Australia A.
