As many as 31 drug addicts admitted to a government-run rehabilitation centre at Janer village escaped after allegedly breaking open the lock of the main gate late on Wednesday evening.The incident of addicts fleeing from the centre was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside. As per information, the addicts first misbehaved with and assaulted some staff of the centre.Sources said a total of 98 addicts were undergoing treatment at this centre. “An argument broke out between some addicts over an issue, which soon escalated into a heated confrontation,” claimed sources.A team from Kot Ise Khan police station rushed to the spot and started an investigation. The CCTV footage from the cameras installed inside and around the centre is being examined to trace the direction in which the patients fled.Dr Gauravpreet Singh Sodhi, officiating Deputy Medical Commissioner, Moga, said, “31 of the total 98 patients admitted at the government rehabilitation centre managed to escape from there last evening. The police are investigating it.”
