WHETHER you’re hitting the gym, pounding the pavement or flowing through yoga poses, finding the right pair of undies is essential.
It’s surprisingly hard to track down underwear that doesn’t ride up mid-run, or a sports bra that’s both comfortable and genuinely supportive.

But one brand fitness fans can’t stop raving about is Step One.
The Aussie company claims its underwear is designed to “stop chafing in its tracks” – and its moisture-wicking fabrics and seamless designs have already racked up more than 50,000 glowing reviews from shoppers, with many calling them a “godsend”.

As a confessed gym bunny, I know all too well the perils of a workout gone wrong.
We spend ages thinking about leggings, trainers and matching sets, but rarely stop to consider what we’re wearing underneath.
Bad underwear isn’t just uncomfortable – it can completely ruin a workout.
So, could these undies really be the saviour activewear fans have been searching for? I decided to put them to the test.
Quickfire Q&A
How much is it? I tried the brand’s SmoothFit Thong, which is currently discounted to £7, and the SmoothFit Padded Bra, which is £16. However, if you bulk buy, those prices drop as low as £5 and £14 respectively.
Who’s it best for? Anyone who, like me, has struggled to find underwear that they can comfortably work out in.
What we loved: It’s so soft and comfortable that I genuinely forgot I was wearing it: there was no riding up or chafing. And, while it’s not the primary consideration, it’s a bonus that it flatters my figure.
What we didn’t: Honestly, I’m struggling to find any downsides. Admittedly, if you buy single pairs, it’s a bit expensive.
Who am I?
I’ve been a sex and relationship expert for years, and I’ve reviewed hundreds of lingerie sets (it’s a tough job, I know).
For me, the essentials are comfort, cost and how well they survive during a sweaty workout – although, looking good in them doesn’t hurt either.
First impressions

The underwear arrived quickly, and I immediately liked that the brand hasn’t overdone the packaging by sending it in an enormous box.
Instead, everything comes neatly packed in a compact, recyclable zip bag.
The undies feel incredibly soft and look as if they’re of great quality.
So far, so good.

Do they deliver?
I opted for the brand’s best-selling electric blue seamless thong, which I paired with a Smoothfit sports bra.
The first thing I noticed was just how unbelievably soft the fabric feels –it’s almost like a second skin.
It’s also incredibly flattering, hugging and accentuating my curves in all the right places. In fact, while getting changed at the gym, other women even commented on how nice the set looked.
Made from organic bamboo, the material is designed to be kind to sensitive skin while helping absorb moisture during workouts.
The brand describes it as ‘where comfort meets sensuality – and surprisingly, that claim really holds up.
What’s more, once I started exercising, there was no chafing, no awkward riding up and no constant adjusting. In fact, it was so comfortable I almost forgot I was even wearing underwear at all.
The Verdict
If you buy pieces individually, Step One may be a bit pricier than other similar underwear on the market, but if you bulk buy, it’s really good.
Undeniably, it’s not the most affordable option, but bundle deals bring the price down: while a single pair costs £10 (currently reduced to £7), buying in bulk can lower the cost to £5 a pair.
Ultimately, if you’re tired of mid-workout adjustments and painful chafing, Step One is worth every single penny.
It’s safe to say my old workout undies are officially heading for the bin.
