Terrified residents watched on as the fire gutted the building, leaving trees charred and brown.

Pictures show the building’s roof to be charred and gaping after the fire had gutted it.

Two neighbouring homes were also damaged by the fire.

Fire crews from Billericay, Basildon, Rayleigh, Brentwood, and Leigh-on-Sea scrambled to the scene to battle the blaze.

Everyone inside the building managed to flee for their lives before the engines arrived.

Devastated local Tracy Poulter, 49, revealed her brave mum, Dot, who lives directly opposite, tried to fight the flames herself with a garden hose.

Tracy told the Echo: “She had the hose on it and her neighbour went out and told her to come in.

“My dad passed away two weeks ago so this is absolutely awful timing for my mum.”

An investigation has been launched to find out exactly how the horror blaze started.
