A HORROR crash involving two motorbikes and a car has left four mile long queues in the sweltering heat.

Both directions of the A12 between J19 and J20 were at a standstill near Chlemsford, Essex.

Pictures showed huge queues with people climbing out of there cars and standing on the road in the blazing sun.

Drivers were warned they faced 4 miles of tailbacks and urged to avoid the area.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene as well as Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

National Highways said both directions faced 20 minute delays.

The northbound lanes remain blocked with motorists being turned around from the rear ahead of 20 minute delays.

The southbound is now open.
