The eco-friendly mix produces 80 per cent less emissions than regular fuel but is three times the price.
Figures given to Parliament show Sustainable Air Fuel (SAF) cost the RAF £16.5million last year, for just two per cent of its fuel.
That is set to rise each year to £187.6million in 2040, when 22 per cent of aviation fuel must come from sustainable sources — at a cost over the period of about £1billion.
That could fund 12 F-35 fighter jets, a Type 45 warship, or 2,500 extra soldiers.

It comes as PM Sir Keir Starmer has been slammed for loosening planned sanctions on Russian oil.
Shadow Armed Forces minister Mark Francois said: “Yet again, Labour put Net Zero ideology over national security.
“They take dirty oil from Russia while forbidding new drilling in the North Sea, and now they are spending above the odds to fuel the RAF.”
The MoD said SAF makes the UK more resilient by cutting dependence on fossil fuels.
It added: “Prices are expected to reduce as production increases.”
