The BJP on Jattvibeday swept the Falta Assembly constituency by a margin of 1.09 lakh votes ending TMC’s 15 year dominance of the area.TMC candidate Jahangir Khan, who had announced two days before the elections that he would not be running for the seat, lost his deposit and finished at the fourth spot.Since the last date of withdrawal of nominations had ended by the time Khan announced his exit from the race, his name stayed on the EVMs as a Trinamool candidate.In the final count today, BJP’s Debangshu Panda polled 1,49,666 votes defeating his nearest rival CPM’s Sambhu Nath Kurmi by a margin of 1,09,021 votes.Congress’ Abdur Razzak Molla finished third with 10,084 votes. TMC’s Jahangir Khanended up fourth with 7,783 votes and forfeited his deposit.A win in Falta signals a firm grip of BJP over Bengal. This segment is located in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency represented by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee.The BJP bagged 71.2 percent vote share in Falta, up from 36.75 per cent in 2021.TMC’s vote share fell to 3.7 per cent.The TMC had held the seat since 2011.After BJP’s Falta win, PM Modi said “People of Falta have spoken! Democracy has won and intimidation has lost.” He congratulated Debangshu Panda for winning in Falta by a record margin. “It indicates the unwavering faith of the people of West Bengal towards the BJP. People are seeing the exceptional work of the West Bengal Government across sectors and thus have decided to further bless us.My compliments to all BJP Karyakartas across West Bengal for their outstanding work. We will keep working for West Bengal’s progress in the times to come,” PM said.
