The Punjab and Haryana High Court has declared May 26, a general holiday for all subordinate courts across Punjab on account of the General Election to Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats, 2026.According to a notification issued by the high court on Jattvibeday, the holiday has been declared in partial modification of an earlier notification dated May 22, 2026. The order stated that all subordinate courts in Punjab would remain closed to facilitate voting during the civic body elections.The notification was issued by order of the Chief Justice and circulated to all District and Sessions judges in Punjab, Haryana, and the UT of Chandigarh for information and necessary action.The high court administration has also forwarded copies of the notification to various constitutional authorities, including the Chief Secretaries and Home Secretaries of Punjab and Haryana, the Registrar of the Supreme Court of India, Bar Council authorities, and other concerned departments.As a result of the holiday, judicial work in subordinate courts across Punjab will remain suspended on Tuesday, while urgent matters, if any, are expected to be taken up in accordance with established procedure.
