Amid some soft questions, students of Government Senior Secondary, Chotta Shimla, slipped in some tough ones, catching Chief Minister (CM) Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and other dignitaries a little off-guard during an interaction at the school on Monday.“Everyone says stay away from drugs and intoxication, but intoxicating products are available in some shops not far from our school. Also, there’s a liquor shop close to the school,” a Class IX girl pointed out. “Isn’t this wrong, sir?” she asked.The CM assured the girl that the liquor shop would be relocated if it was closer to schools than the norms allowed.Saini’s visit to the school, his alma mater, is part of his plan to visit schools that have been recently affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and have candid interaction with the students.Another student pointed out that they had not received CBSE books yet, expressing concerns about how they would complete the syllabus without the books.Responding to her concerns, the CM said some teething problems are always associated with big changes and everything would be sorted out shortly.Another girl student brought the shortage of washrooms and irregular water supply to the CM’s notice.A Class XII student told the CM that there was just one sanitation worker in the school where 700 were studying. Sukhu advised the students that it was their responsibility as well to keep their school neat and clean.The CM told the children that success comes through discipline, dedication and the willingness to struggle. “Success comes to those who persevere and work hard to achieve their goals,” he said.
