A major fire erupted at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office in Doraha on Tuesday evening, damaging several transformers stored in the TRY area of the premises.According to eyewitnesses, the fire initially broke out in the trees outside the PSPCL premises.“In no time, due to the east wind, the fire spread in the PSPCL station and set the transformers, filled with oil, ablaze,” said Sukhminder Singh, a resident of Buani village, who was passing by when the blaze intensified beyond control. The incident triggered panic among nearby residents. Amid the chaos, the owner of a car parked close to the site misplaced his keys. Acting swiftly, five to six people lifted the vehicle and moved it to safety.Fire brigade teams from Doraha, Samrala and Ludhiana rushed to the spot. Due to the oil stored in the transformers, firefighters struggled for several hours before bringing the blaze under control. No casualties were reported, while the extent of damage to the transformers is still being assessed. When contacted, XEN PSPCL Doraha Daljit Singh said the transformers had accumulated in the yard because they had not been lifted by the designated contractor for some time. As a result, a large number of transformers were stacked together, allowing the fire to spread rapidly from one unit to another because of the oil stored inside them.
